The brief for the 2011 Australasian Quilters Conference challenge was to create a quilt around the theme "The Seven Deadly Sins" . What wicked fun - which sin - a few stood out, two entries were allowed, what to pick? Answer - all of them! Next decision, abstract or realist?
The answer came in the garden on a warm summer's day, perfume in the air, a light breeze and the hum of very busy bees. Greedy gluttonous instects, orange blossom and lilies looking lusty, viola standing straight watching, then there was my messy garlic harvest, agressive nasturtiums and a very proud peace rose. All just waiting to be photographed.
How to represent all these wonderful sights? Perhaps the pages of a book spread over a background could work, a moral tale from the past. The next day it rained and I took advantage of the wet weather (again) to clean out a wardrobe full of fabrics. Inside I found a treasure trove, a huge luscious piece of satin and some embroidered silk from my friend Olga, a rich piece of velvet and some lace from Bev, colourful rayon threads from Dijanne, dark green glittery thread and black and gold beads from Toni. Then more bits of lace, calico, beads and tulle from my own stash.

On the following pages are pictures of each page and some brief notes.
All photographs were printed with an inkjet printer on Jacquard silk habutai.
Later in the month I will be making available a limited edition art book of this project -
